THE  LANGUAGE OF FLOWERS

                                                    JULY NEWSLETTER

Hi

Flowers speak to us through  fragrance ,colour and texture and the Victorians
gave a meaning to many wild and garden flowers. A daisy means "innocence"
a red carnation means "Alas My poor Heart" and a buttercup "childishness".
Remembering this lost language can add a new dimension to a stroll around the garden or a country walk.

If you want to know the meanings of many many plants and flowers visit

Cutting off the dead heads is an easy garden task and its even better if you can dry and save the rose petals to make a pot pourri. Spread the petals on a tray in a very  low oven overnight.  I add a vanilla pod and a few drops of rose oil which makes quite a heady scent.

Our colouring competition this month stays with the theme of flowers.  There is a picture of a flower girl  to colour and  a "rose mandala".  Visit the colouring competition page to download entries.

If you are an activities provider DO get in touch and share your ideas. You can
contribute to the newsletter or post on the Forum.  Either way, an exchange of ideas is healthy !

Have a happy summer.

Best wishes,

Sheila
